Considering how many people voted for him, about 3,000, out of a total of 3,700 people that voted in total. A less than 17% Turn out, It seems that he will need to invite people to the swearing ceremony otherwise nobody would show up.

I'm sure that the many elderly widows who think that he is such a "nice boy" will be there. How sad that this man got in office.

i like him, till he brought up this whole idea about the city buying condos for the lower salaried city employees. What the hell is that all about. if you are going to waste my tax dollars like that than you better just send them back to me. I put them to bette use.

Hasn't anyone been paying attention to what went on with your tax dollars over the last few years for affordable housing. Condo flipping for insiders, developers taking money with nothing being built. At least if we buy something already built, we can at least be assured that our money set aside for affordable housing will at least house someone that needs it.
Also, its not just for city employees. Its for people within a certain income bracket. If you're wondering why teachers are leaving our city in droves, you might compare their income with the cost of living. This also holds true for cops, city workers, single parent households, etc., etc., etc. You might live in your castle in the Grove, but it doesn't erase the fact that we are the poorest city and we need affordable housing. Some of the poorest people in Miami live in our district.
People should focus on the scandals of the last year in affordable housing, not only in the city but in the county. If you want to rally about something, it might be a rally against those people that have stolen our tax dollars and the fact that they have not been bought to justice. Its amazing that people will rally against an idea rather than crimes that have already occurred.
Those teeshirts aren't yellow, are they?

I don’t live in a castle; I live in a 500 sq foot box. The city has no freaking business BUYING property with our tax dollars for individuals, PERIOD! I do not support the banana republic bs that has happened over the years. Equating not supporting this waste of my tax money as somehow supporting all the other bs spending is asinine. I also think that using tax dollars to buy housing for individuals is a blatant violation of the United States Constitution Amendment 14 paragraph 1 equal protection clause:
All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

The fact is that the city does do affordable housing. Sarnoff did not invent it, but as a commissioner, has to deal with it. He is trying to get units that cost $250,000 for the city to build for $25,000 less. I don't think its fair to condemn someone for coming up with an idea that saves money that is going to be spent anyway.
Maybe if you are against affordable housing, that is what you should be fighting against.

Sarnoff discovered that the City of Miami was spending money for the purchase of units for poor people that were costing the taxpayers, primarily taxpayers in his District, up to $350,000 per unit and up to $350 per sq ft. Often these units, that only went to poor people were being built in very bad locations. These units were not near shopping and they were often far from mass transit. Sarnoff began asking why the taxpayers were being forced to buy units for up to $350 per sq ft when hundreds (thousands) of units are on the market (realtor.com) for $125 to $200 per sq ft. Often the existing units were close to shopping, jobs and mass transit.

Re-using existing units is very green friendly. No concrete trucks and no trees cut down...

No bail-out was recommended. Sarnoff only made the public aware of the economics of what was happening.

You are such a sucker if you think Sarnoff cares about affordable housing - he fought hard for years to keep it out of his neighborhood.

He is simply trying gain popularity votes by doing and saying anything necessary.

He's desperate because people are finally figuring out what a crooked, selfish, arrogant, elitist he really is...

I think Sarnoff wants to stop the taxpayers from being ripped off. Why should the taxpayers be hit up for $300,000 apartments for people with after tax incomes of $500 per month?

Sarnoff realized the market was offering units in good locations for $150,000.

I find it odd that there have not been any facts relating to the need for an anti-Sarnoff rally. Certainly people don't rally against personality flaws when there's a war going on. And the people in the center grove must have more concerns than that stupid circle. I don't agree with everything he did, but don't feel a need to waste my Sunday standing on a corner whining about it.

Is there someone out there that can give me some facts without insulting me or anyone else? Think outside your 500 ft box.

If no facts are given, I will assume that this is another smear campaign by a person or people that would rather have a yes-man for Diaz's pro-concrete agenda.
