Visual Pollution
I have mentioned this to friends about 100 times since then -- the fact that I couldn't believe how clean the cities looked because there was no large advertising signs in your face. Their buildings are clean.
Miami does look like a total mess with ads on top of ads. For some reason, the powers that be feel that Miami needs to compete with New York on a building scale and Times Square on an ugly scale.
If Miami wants to be ugly, fine, let's keep the Grove clean. So far so good, we don't seem to have many ugly billboards or signs around. There is that one ugly billboard over Grand and McDonald, but that has been there since day one it seems and it's almost an institution.
I hate the huge one on US1 near Douglas Road, luckily the hedges in the median block it from the south bound lanes.

Not sure what the point of my comment is, but you're blog comment of the day seems a little faulty ... hypocritical. BIG GREEN COME VISIT THE GROVE BILLBOARD. Billboard is a billboard, sorry to say.
Miami does have too many billboards and far too many illegal murals. All murals are illegal. It appears the weak Code Enforcement Department is too scared to enforce the laws against "connected" property owners. (One executive from Code Enforcement recently left to work for one of the illegal mural companies.)
Kansas City found the same propblem. Too many huge ugly billboards. So under much pressure their City Commission voted to ban billboards and begin a phaseout.
Perhaps Commissioner Sarnoff can help to improve our quality of life by eliminating the visual pollution?
Benji, you've been smoking that funny weed again, haven't you?
Miami looks very "third world" with all the ugly massive billboards. Politicians should show courage and vote to ban billboards or at least to phase them out.
Outdoor advertisers have their sights set on the Grove. They see more billboards and illegal murals throughout the Grove. On all major roads. Be wary.
What about all those murals painted on buildings in Village West?
Art murals are sometimes legal.
If the murals are advertising a product or service then they are illegal. Call 311 or Code Enforcement.
I think the murals in Village West are beautiful and help give the area a sense of pride, especially when by a local artist. They are simply meant to enrich the view.
On the contrary, ads intend to manipulate people - and people can sense it, whether consciously or not.
This is the Grove...I say we round up some local painters and redecorate the billboards hidden under the cloak of night.
I can't paint, so I'll volunteer to be on guard duty.
Signs are supposed to advertise goods and services sold on site. And the City has a Sign Ordinance and a permitting process.
The problem is with the massive non-permitted illegal signs selling cars, liquor or shoes or anything sold off site. Also all the ugly illegal murals are really disgusting. Where is Code Enforcement?
