Nikki is coming

So it looks like Nikki Beach Club is opening Nikki Coconut Grove in December at the Sonesta Hotel (2889 McFarlane Rd).

The Grove is finally turning around. With Qdoba opening and Starbucks opening a second location, and Chili's coming. And of the course, the great news of the new book store. Things are looking up.

The club plans to be an upscale place, hoping to be popular for weeknight happy hour. And the after hours and weekends will have the music contained inside, so as not to disturb the neighbors.

As a native of Coconut Grove, I love to see new things going on here. I think Nikki Beach Club will bring alot of people to the Grove and help the surrounding businesses. I am especially excited for the new bookstore! It's about time! Where is the new location of Starbuck's going to be?

The Grove needs another good restaurant, not some clubby place that stays open til 3am and brings nothing but more noise and trouble.
We can rename ourselves Miami Beach Grove.

Well then why don't you stop with the anonymous comments and open one dear? I am sure the BIC will accommodate you.

I like the idea as there could be nicer spots for the happy hour crowd, especially now that 3484 bit the dust (They were trying to be a restaurant apparently, from what Ive heard, but couldnt pull off being more than a bar. Plus, their manager re-tooled the menu with a bunch of garbage). Not that 3484 was a "nicer spot" but it did have a decent happy hour crowd.

Then again, I think Flavour intended to do what Nikki is attempting and ended up selling out to the college club crowd anyways.

Yeah, I liked 3484 too at first, but then the food went WAAAAAAAAY downhill. The pear salad was my favorite and after this idiot switched around and cheapened everything on the menu I happened to order it. All the arugula was spotted and rotten, the sliced pears were now a barely edible teeny tiny pear, unsliced, and the gorgonzola was minimal at best. Complete waste of time opening that place. I liked the bartenders there too and the sous chef was a stand up guy. Oh well, bring on the next turnstile restaurant!

I would like to see more local business - locally owned bookstores, locally owned coffeeshops, locally owned Mexican restuarants - than big chains that will make charming Coconut Grove more generic. I'm not sure what's so exciting about a Starbucks and a Mexican chain restaurant.

Why, exactly, do you all think this is a good thing?

But to clarify, I think Nikki and the bookstore are exciting. Just not Starbucks and Qdoba.

Because beggars can't be choosers and anything beats empty storefronts. I hate CocoWalk, too, but I don't want it to fail.
