Columbus Day Regatta this weekend

Grovites AnnaMaria Windisch Hunt artist, left, with Susan Walcutt, Regatta Treasurer

AnnaMaria and Fred Hunt have been busy this summer. AnnaMaria Windisch Hunt's painting was selected to be the poster art for this year's Columbus Day Regatta.

The 53rd annual regatta is this coming Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6 and 7, 2007, at the
Coral Reef Yacht Club (2482 South Bayshore Drive).

Susan Walcutt, Regatta treasurer will be on the finish boat during the race, timing the boats as they come across the finish line.

First held in 1954, the Columbus Day Regatta was run with 24 boats, and was originally conceived as a commemoration of a small boat cruise made in 1492, as the explorer Christopher Columbus embarked on the first of his four sea journeys.

AnnaMaria, also known as “Mermaid,” is a contributing artist at Cafe TuTu Tango at CocoWalk and also at the Orlando Cafe TuTu Tango and is founder of the One Ear Society in Coconut Grove.

Damn! I submitted a painting for this too. Mine had a picture of a bunch of boats floating in the shallows with topless girls and guys smashing beer cans on their heads. Wonder how that didnt win? It pretty much defines the Regatta for everyone who ISNT in a race boat but has a boat haha.
