Impeach crew

First the sign, now the group: From left: Diane Lawrence, Lenora Shlackman, John Geraghty, Lynn Wheeler, Carlos Alvarez, Xayleen Alvarez, Fatima Mevs, Michael Fishman, Ty Shlackman.
Behind: Alan Kobrin, Simon Rose.

I saw them this past weekend marching around the Grove. Ironically, one of our readers sent me the following:

I had an annoying intrusion to my brunch on Saturday, so I figured I'd ask if you've ever experienced this, or that you could post to see if others had...

I was sitting at Green Streets enjoying my eggs and toast when a large line of people assembled on the other side of the street, each carrying a letter on a sign that when formed together spelled IMPEACH. They were calling for people to make a motion to impeach Bush.

At first I didn't mind it, as everyone has their own opinion. It was then that the annoyance began. One woman began pestering people during their meals by approaching their tables and asking for them to sign some paper. A lot of people were really annoyed, including me who told the woman that she was completely disrespectful to interrupt my meal and push her opinions on me. The couple at the table next to me got very angry when approached and for a second I thought things might escalate, which would have been unfortunate but probably kinda funny too.

There are a lot of people in the Grove with strong opinions on various different issues. It's one thing to inform and invite others who share the same views. Its another to push your views upon people by rudely interrupting their meal.

Ah, the fine line of free speech!
We have a similar problem in the Gables; activists lurk outside of Starbucks to get people to sign petitions or join organizations.

But after 2 weeks of being asked to save the everglades every time you pass that corner, you start feeling put upon.

I agree with the sentiments of your correspondent, although if those moonbats had pestered me they would have been greeted with derisive laughter.

Now that you have posted the protestors names, they are all under investigation...

If for any other reason than impeachment of Bush/Cheney I too may have objected, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

They emailed me the names, otherwise I would not have posted their names and they were all so happy to take the time to stop, line up in order and pose for the photo.

Guess they put their money where their mouth is, so to speak and they aren't "anonymous" like so many are.

They have a right to voice their opinions, sorry you were so interrupted at your famous little breakfast spot. They are doing what they believe and for that I applaud them. If you all do not want to listen then close your NARROW minded ears!

People may have freedom of speech, but I also have a right to NOT listen

This is what happens when no one listens to these Moonbats. Rather than recognizing that in the "market of ideas" their ideas have not been accepted, they believe they are not being loud enough and their tactics only get more agressive.

My wife and I were in San Francisco about a year ago and typically there was one of these impeach Cheney, Bush, Rove rallys & they had a guy drapped in a sheet like the prisoner at Abu Ghraib & alot of yelling in bull horns. Not being privy to the politics of San Francisco, my wife seriously asked me if this was a KKK rally?

Looking back, I can see why she made this interpretation. There was a guy in a sheet and a lot of hateful words.

The emotion of hate blinds the judgement of individuals and this is why people out enjoying brunch get verbally assaulted by the modern day Left in America.

It is really sad that "progressive" values have become so corrupted. Real ideas motivate people not hate.

Impeach Bush!!!!!

The idea that there are still people rooting for this administration makes me want to lose my eggs at the nauseating ignorance of a (thankfully decreasing) segment of our population.

One doesn't have to be "rooting for this administration" to believe that impeachment would be pointless and destructive. Besides, the thought of "President Pelosi" makes me shudder.

Just for the record, it was I who emailed Mr. Grapevine about the interrupted brunch. Like I said in the post (for those of you who read it and were able to comprehend), I have no problem with people trying to express their opinions on any issues. I just dont want to be inconvenienced by it. It was totally inappropriate. For those "Anons" above, would you want homeless people asking you for money while you were trying to enjoy a meal? I didnt think so. This woman pestering patrons was completely disrespectful of others, which is not surprising considering that this is Miami and about 99% of the people who live here only give a crap about themselves.

The bottom line is that there is a right and a wrong way to go about doing things and this was the wrong way. I dont want you pushing your views on me, whether they are political, religious, or why I should choose Coke over Pepsi. We only have a few months left of being led by this President (who I absolutely LOATHE btw), so suck it up and deal with it. Starting up an "impeachment rally" at this stage of the game is pointless and a total waste of time. Try backing the next candidate instead if you really need something to fuel your inner hippie.

What if the American people elect another Republican President? Can the protesters then get in your face at brunch?

Let's face it, until the Left (& I do not mean just Democrats) has complete control of all branches of government in this country, this idiocy will not stop.

In there mind there are no alternate ideologies or ways to govern.

People who have a conservative bent have a sickness in their view and they must be marginalized.

The problem with this country is that we have abundance; abundance of everything! Abundance of food, water, relatively no violence in comparison to Iraq and the Middle East, abundance of fossil fuels. The problem with abundance is that it creates complacency. For those that complain about being inconvenienced because someone who is advocating for peace and wants to stop the indiscriminate killing of innocent Iraqi children, women and men, interrupted their meal, I ask them to try to picture your children running scared, screaming and dodging bullets and bombs; try to picture your children with amputated limbs; try to picture your children dead in your arms. If you don't have children, I'm sure you have nephews and/or nieces. And I thought this incompetent President said we (America) were going to open up the flood gates of compassion. It's more like the flood gates of hell.

Oh, spare me the dramatic sob story jgonzalez. The people were talking about impeachment, not dying babies in Iraq. You fall for the crap that they pump into your head. Between you and the anon with the dumbass comment above, I dont know what to think. Youre both delusional. I dont want anyone in my face while Im enjoying a meal, period. Much like you dont want people knocking on your door trying to convert you to become a mormon. Both of your arguments are completely absurd and nonsensical and dont deserve any more debate than has already been handed out.

Ok, I too don't understand why all the aggression and attacking each other. I am for impeachment, and have voiced my concerns many times, and not just by protesting either. But I agree with those that say that at this point in the game, our efforts would probably be better directed at influencing the many Americans who like opinions to be fed to them and refuse to think for themselves. I mean, we will be voting a new president into office in THREE MONTHS! Give me a break, I stopped wasting my energy on the impeachement that was and is never going to happen a long time ago... I think it's time to focus on Obama, simply because he's the lesser of two evils. Our country and our citizens cannot handle much more of what Bush, Mccain, and other republicans have in store... I would also love to see some of these people get approached while they are eating and see how they would react. Obviously this is ridiculous, anywhere in the world, any time in history, and for virtually any reason. There are SO many other ways to go about it.. it really doesn't make sense to me. But I don't think they meant any harm by it.. I would bet they are just not the smartest group of protestors one might find if you know what I mean, to be polite.
