Taco & Crepes Land
Their burritos are huge, a meal in themselves, but they also offer tacos and quesadillas and now have salads and a new menu of dessert crepes including Strawberries and Nutella and Bananas and Nutella, also a New York Crepe (cheesecake, dulce de leche, peanuts and whipped cream) and a Peach Melba Crepe (peach, sour cream, raspberry sauce and whipped cream).
You can eat there, inside or out under the yellow umbrellas and watch the world go by on Main Highway or have them deliver. They also cater. You may reach them at 305-445-4500. You can also visit them on line at www.taco-crepesland.com

The name of this place absolutely cracks me up! What happened to A&S? Burritos werent doing enough biz and they noticed a decent stream of biz at the crepe place across the street so they decided to compete with them? Ive never seen so many specialty shops set up identical businesses right on top of each other like they do in the Grove. Until I moved there, Id never seen a gelato or crepe place. Now there are options for each. Its like the Grove Iron Chef. Whos crepe cuisine will reign supreme?!?!?!
I believe you, but that name is AWFUL!
We lovingly call Main Highway "Champs Elysee"
I can't believe what I am reading. That place is awful. I had tacos there and they were horrible. I seriously wanted to vomit after I ate it. There is never anybody there it seems. They should get rid of that place and get a Chipotle moved in.
Not to worry. The place will soon be re-named Tacos, Crepes, Sushi & Pizza Land and will be open until 5 am.
Funny you mention that since the sushi place a few doors down went from a wine & cheese market to a wine/cheese/sushi joint, then finally decided sushi was the way to go.
As an American of Mexican descent, this place is not very good. I grew up with authentic Mexican cooking from my mom who's from Mexico City. She was here visiting recently, so I took her to "A&S" and she was not pleased at all. The next day I took her to the Sandbar for steak fajitas, and she absolutely loved it! Now I know Sandbar is not authentic Mexican, but the fajitas kick butt and everything tastes so fresh.
A couple summers ago, when the hurricanes kept knocking the power out in the neighborhood for nearly 2 weeks at a time, all I wanted was hot food not out of a can. I remember A &S was open, with a little generator, seemed like the whole family pitching in, and they served up DELICIOUS food under tough conditions. I have found memories of the place because of that.
We need someone to oversee/approve the retail mix in the Grove; there is so much we need and so much of what is here is what we don't need. How about a good shoe and purse repair, a bakery, a toy shop where you can pick up a kid's birthday present at a reasonable price, a stationery/card shop store, let's get people walking the streets and running all their errands in the Grove - providing of course they can find a place to park.
Personally, I think the mere fact that they have changed the concept from Tacomania to Taco & Crepe Land, indicates the beginning of the end for them. It makes abslutely no coherent sense.
There is a sad fact about the grove and it is this: It is the landlords who are to blame for the lousy stores/tenants.
There are two types of landlords: Those that want reasonable rents from high-quality tenants that will last many many years AND landlords who demand obscene rents because they do not mind turning the space over every 2 years. And why? Because they collect the security deposit, a personal guarantee, and the knowledge that someone else will come along to pay the ridiculous rent.
The Engle building in particular is notorious for tenant turnover. Whoever owns that building would only be doing the grove a favor by selling it to someone who cares about the grove.
