The Best
"Coconut Grove is actually a series of neighborhoods: North Grove, South Grove, Center Grove and West Grove, each with its own characteristics. But there is something Coconut Groveish about most Coconut Groveites: They’re very protective of trees and all things green, weary of the future character of the neighborhood, love sailing, desire youth programs and, citing a really long history that predates Miami, have aspirations of declaring their independence from the city of Miami. In short: Coconut Grove is a breeding ground for eccentric, passionate and intelligent activists that Miami can use more of."
And Old Grover was named Best Local Blog. Congrats!

Dear Grapevine,
While Old Grover is certainly appreciative of the recognition, he is fully aware that there are some really good local blogs, especially Grapevine, who are much more deserving given the effort that goes into their operation. That said, thanks for the mention.
All the best,
Howard Beasley
Well, we can kiss the sailing goodbye. City is taking over the CGSC mooring fields, as well as the anchorage, & they just raised rates on Miami residents at Dinner Key by 40%, which will chase out most all the sailors.
Also, the zoning board just voted 5-4 last tonight to approve a special exception for Visions Nightclub to open until 5:00 am. So we have very good reason to be wary of the future character of The Grove.
Visions? Does anyone even go there? To be fair though, there are other places that are open until 5am in the Grove (Moes, Flanagans, etc.) What is the difference?
The difference is the flood gates are open; more and more clubs will apply. Do we want to be a late night village with these clubs spilling their patrons onto the streets, filtering into our residential areas; leaving with their boom boxes blaring, and creating litter with their beer bottles and vomit?
How many places can you name that have been in the location of Vision? They ALL stayed open late and they ALL remained under attended...and they ALL vanished. I don't think it will be much of a change.
Anon #2 is right. Places like that are here today, gone tomorrow. I dont think we have much to worry about.
Yes, the Grove is the best neighborhood in S. Florida.
Very nice of the Sun Post to recognize the drive for greenery.

Hi All: I'm not sure if this is the proper forum for this discussion especially under the thread of "Miami's Best" but I would like to get insightful opinions on these late night clubs. There are 2 equally valid sides to this...1 that nearby residents don't want more problems due to late night activities and 2 that businesses and entertainment venues can bring people into the Grove to spend their money which is a good thing. Various sides will be looking for support from community groups and I would like to know what the people think. Maybe we should start a separate thread on this?

I love living in the Grove! I hope my fellow Coco-nutz neighbors continue to embrace all members of our village. We have a unique history and character in this 'hood.
