Late night clubs in the Grove
"There are two equally valid sides to this . . . one that nearby residents don't want more problems due to late night activities and two that businesses and entertainment venues can bring people into the Grove to spend their money which is a good thing. Various sides will be looking for support from community groups and I would like to know what the people think."
I myself, don't have an opinion either way, but if you move right next to the central business district, shouldn't you realize there is going to be noise? This is common in every city -- South Beach residents deal with it on a daily basis. So do the people who live near Times Square in New York and Market Street in San Francisco and Hollywood Blvd. in Los Angeles.

Your comment on moving to a central business district has some merit, but the Grove is not a "city". It is more a "village" or "town". Yes, I know its part of the city of Miami, but I just dont classify it as a city. What Im trying to say is that you should expect some late night noise if you live in the Cocowalk area, but clubs that are open until 5am are not likely attracting the types of people who are going to contribute enough finances to the Grove to counteract the damage they do.
I think you are right. When selecting a location to live all the pros & cons should be considered. Somebody who likes to be in the middle of the action would enjoy living near it. While others would choose not to live so close. If you are living there & changes are made (either way), then people can protest.
Sensible Moderation!!!
This IS an active neighborhood...so maybe clubs should be open until 12 Midnight or 1 AM.
But no one who lives in the area has any interest in a club that stays open until 5 AM. People who live nearby have jobs and responsibilities.
Put clubs open until 5 AM near where their patrons live. They won't complain about the noise. And they'll have a shorter drug-addled drive home and be less of a danger to the innocents they may encounter on the way.
Let's not kid ourselves: The Grove is not Times Square, it is not San Francisco and it is not even South Beach. It is a residential neighborhood. Any comparison is a synthetic equation. We're a residential neighborhood where most people do not stay out until 5AM.
Well, if you move to those new condos across Mayfair you SHOULD expect to hear noise till late, especially on weekends; however, anyone who wishes to have peace and quiet would know better and choose a location away from all the action. Although I would hate to see the Grove become a hot spot for late-night clubs, I think that having a few selected locations is a great option for those of us who live nearby and hate everything about the beach. Finding a balance is difficult, but as a professional with sometime odd hours at the hospital, there is nothing better than being able to get a late night bite at Moes or Sandbar.
The grove doesn't really have "clubs" it's much more of a bar scene. Last call at most places is 2:00. If people want to stay out until 5 AM they will go to south beach, not near cocowalk.
You know what's fun? Going out on a Friday morning for a run during sunrise and getting chased down the street by a drunk male who's mad because you didn't stop to talk to him. This really happened to me. The streets were filled with drunk people and not a cop in sight. Everyone knows that Thursday night is college night, yet no cops at the 5am closing? And let's not forget that there are two schools within spitting distance of these bars. So what's the issue here, quality of life or the people's right to get drunk 24/7?
you're sure right about being hassled by the drunks on early morning runs! Especially at the Cocowalk bathroom at 5:30am on Saturday/Sunday mornings!
Problem: Club flyers are distributed by throwing the ON THE GROUND. Thousands of them.
That is why Miami Beach outlawed the distribution of flyers. I concur.
I don't know why you have a problem with the flyers. After all, they are cleaned up by people getting paid with our tax dollars. Also, when you walk your child to school in the morning, the pictures help to open up discussions on all sorts of topics. "Mommy, why are those two naked women kissing that guy on his chest?"
"getting chased down the street by a drunk male who's mad because you didn't stop to talk to him."
You poor, abused dear.
In my experience, the women who whine about this stuff are the uggos who never really get chased by anyone...
Okay, let me get this straight. I am a 50 year old woman getting chased down the street by a drunken boy that I'm old enough to have given birth to, and this is what I really want first thing in the morning in your opinion? I guess if you think that is what women want, there is little doubt that you have relationship problems. Let's hope that one day you don't have a daughter that has to put up with the macho abuse that occurs towards woman here in Miami.
Okay, maybe I used the wrong word. When I said "chased", I meant someone ran after me cursing and ready to do me bodily harm to the point that his buddies had to pull him back. I'm not talking about "chased", meaning some guy was trying to pick me up. Sorry for any misconception.
You know, I was only trying to relay an incident that happened to me. My feeling towards the the 5 am closing, which is really the topic of this blog entry, is mixed. I guess what I was really trying to say was that if there are 5 am closings, there should be a police presence to help protect the citizens of the Grove.
By the way, your anger issues with women could be helped with counseling. I have know people with issues like yours, and, with a little help, they finally got over that penis size problem.
I am a professional (with a daytime job) and love living in near the Central Grove business district. I few yards from Loggerhead (Flannigan's). They are open until 4 and 5 nearly every night. Yes, the noise level from the departing patrons is sometimes high, but it is worth it. I am lucky enough to have a variety of great daytime and nighttime activities within walking distance of my home - a luxury not afforded my many in our city. Most of the time, it is quiet. If I really wanted silence, I would move to the country. Not to mention, the burbs are chock-full of late-night teenage drivers with nothing better to do than be on the streets.

Save it; every guy I know is familiar with people like you and your use of shaming language ("You have a small pen!s/you live at home with your mom/you can't get a date/i'll bet your gay"). It's completely lost it's power and we usually tell femnags like yourself where to stuff it.
LOL. Any more men chase you at 5AM this morning, uggo? You've got more false abuse claims that the Duke escort/stripper. And we know how THAT turned out...
God knows what you think these men are going to do to you; vomit on you probably...
