Do not allow this puppet to return

Please click here for the Sun Post's take on the Johnny Winton situation. Just the fact that he allowed Home Depot to enter the Grove is enough to keep him out. He is only for big development, the Mayor and making money at anyone's cost. He doesn't care about people or quality of life. Power goes to his head. So does money.

And to think he wants to come back so he can continue to pave over Miami and be the Mayor's puppet? He would be a lame duck and only be in office for two things -- to get the Mayor's agenda through and to collect a pension. Also maybe a third thing: to keep all the lobbyists on the payroll. You have seen all their lies and stupid comments posted here on this blog -- the ones in favor of Johnny, that's them.

He got us in the Home Depot mess and would gladly have allowed The Related Group to do whatever they wanted at the Mercy Hospital site and even though Miami is a total mess and continues to be overdeveloped, he and the Mayor still want to rape the City by paving over parks and allowing non-stop cement pouring over every green space in Miami. He can do a lot of damage in the few months that he would be allowed back.

So far Gov. Charlie Crist has done everything right, let's hope he continues and says no to the reinstatement of Winton.

Winton has been suspended for over 12 months. Winton would be out of touch on the current issues facing the City. He was out of touch while he was in office and he would more out of touch today. There are new developments in the issues affecting Bicentennial Park, Miami 21, re-zoning in North Coconut Grove, the Biscayne MiMo district, the fixed rail streetcar scheme and many other issues. In fact, the one time Winton has visited City Hall since his suspension he spoke in favor of R4 zoning (high rise multi-family) in a single family neighborhood.

Now if Manny Diaz wants Winton back so Winton can rubber stamp several Diaz pet projects that is another matter...

Reject Winton

Johnny Winton was suspended from office because of his poor judgment and hubris.

Good riddance.

In my neighborhood, Winton sold us out to the Related Group when he steam-rolled over residents' objections at a public meeting to the Oasis high-rise.

Winton had no interest in hearing from any objectors and treated us with disdain. I am certain that a lucrative career in development awaits him. He should pursue that rather than attempt to return to a seat that was won fairly by Marc Sarnoff, who has demonstrated much better qualifications than Winton.

Winton is everything we do not want. He is a poor example to the youth of this community and he has turned his back on the village where he lives. He used to be our community activist-and then he turned on the very people who helped elect him. He is a creature of the Mayor. He cannot keep his word to his constiuents for even 24 hrs. The day befor he is adjudicated he says politics-not on his horizon any time in the near future-the day after adjudication, he wants his more than generous pension health insurance and othe lifetime percs provided at the expense of the taxpayers of Miami. If he wants his seat-let him run for it in Nov.

HOW CAN ANYONE EVEN THINK ABOUT BRINGING THIS PERSON BACK TO OFFICE. HE IS A DISGRACE!!!!
HE HAS NOT BEEN A LEADING FORCE IN THE TRANSFORMATION OF MIAMI - HE IS JUST ON OF MANNY DIAZ'S BOYS. I KNOW THIS FOR A FACT. THIS IS MY OWN EXPERIENCE WITH MR. WINTON THAT I AM SPEAKING ABOUT. HE IS RUDE AND COULD CARE LESS ABOUT OUR MIAMI. MY MOTHER, AN ELDERLY LADY, WENT TO SEE HIM TO ASK FOR 3 MINUTES OF HIS TIME AND HE STARTED SCREAMING AT HER AND THEN I INTERVENED AND HE STARTED SCREAMING AT ME. WE NEVER SPOKE TO HIM IN AN UNRESPECTFUL MANNER FOR HIM TO TREAT US THAT WAY. MR WINTON, LIKE THE REST OF MANNY'S CLAN, ONLY CARE ABOUT THEIR POCKETS. I HAVE BEEN TO COUNTLESS MEETINGS ABOUT THE FIRE FEE, THE PROPERTY TAXES, ETC. AND I FORGOT TO MENTION EVEN THE COURTHOUSE FOR THE FIRE FEE CORRUPTION CASE WHERE WINTON AND THE REST OF THEM WERE SUBPOENAED. IF OUR CITIZENS WHERE TO HAVE WITNESSED WINTON ON THE STAND - EVERYONE WOULD BE OUTRAGED AT THE ATTITUDE AND THE ANSWERS THAT MR. WINTON PRODUCED IN THAT COURTHOUSE. HE SHOWED HIS TRUE COLORS. THIS IS NOT SOMEONE WE WANT IN OUR GOVERNMENT. OUR GOVERNMENT IS SUPPOSE TO CARE AND REPRESENT THE PEOPLE OF THE COMMUNITY. HE HAS NOT PLACE IN OUR GOVERNMENT. WE THE PEOPLE OF MIAMI MUST REALIZE THAT WE ARE THE ONES PAYING THESE INDIVIDUALS THEIR SALARIES AND THAT WE ARE NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE. WE ARE FED UP WITH CORRUPTION AND POLITICIANS THAT THINK THEY ARE ABOVE THE LAW. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. LETS PICK WINNERS NOT LOSERS TO REPRESENT US.

SINCERELY
E.C.
