Retain Sarnoff

The Governor was in town yesterday and the Grove's Sue McConnell wasn't shy about letting her feelings be known.

Way to go Sue.
Lets hope that Governor Crist does the right thing and says "No Thanks" to Winton returning.
Keep up the good work.

I agree. Hopefully Charlie will not put Winton back in office.

Also, this photo looks like it was taken at the Home Depot store on SW 8th Street...LOL

Sue says:
Of all the Home Depots all over the State, Governor Crist chose SW 8th St. to film a commercial on hurricane preparedness and guess what: they didn't even bother to clean it up...there were carts, lumber trolleys, trash and debris everywhere. No surpise there! As is my policy, however, I did not set foot inside Home Depot.
Hey Jen, he doesn't look to harassed to me.

Miami politics

Arthur Teele was arrested and charged after verbally threatening an undercover police officer who was, basically, stalking his wife. Johnny Winton was arrested on charges of physically harming two men whom he knew were police.

One is vilified in the media and, ultimately, takes his life. The other pleads no contest and expects to go back into office. Miami politics at its best.

Jenny is right. Politicians should not have to put up with listening to their constituents. If we can only get Johnny back that won't be a problem.

Jenny is right. Constituents should not bother public officials. Public officials should only listen to lobbyists and lawyers. Jenny sounds like a Johnny "Do you know who I am" Winton fan. Johnny was never bothered by the need to listen, unless he was being told what to do by Jorge Perez.

Why is it that old politicians never go away? Johnny, you are not welcome on the city commission anymore. We have an excellent commissioner now and his name is Marc Sarnoff. He is actually making a difference for the citizens of Miami, and is able to do so without enriching himself. Find another job, Johnny.

I was against it when the topic first came up, but I went to the Grove HD this weekend. I found it (and the lot) to be very clean and useful. I also nearly dropped dead when I asked for help and at least 5 employees that I spoke with were glad to help and actually spoke english! So far there havent been any problems with HD as far as Im concerned, so I guess after all the bitching and moaning on what COULD go wrong, we really didnt get screwed that bad. Time to move on folks. Give it up...

Did you notice all the beautiful mature trees? At the Grove Home Depot? Home Depot wanted to chop them all down. They actually cut down quite a few before inspectors and concerned activists from Grove First and Tree Man Trust and Marc Sarnoff forced Home Depot to keep the 30 to 60 year old trees. Yes, they are beautiful. But Home Depot spent a fortune on an army of attorneys attempting to cut them all down. (110) Next time you see a Grove activist, thank them.

I say the harassment of public officials is a worthwhile pastime! It's also called activism.

You're right - we didn't get screwed that bad compared to what we could have had, an entire site of a big orange Home Depot and no grocery store and you are right no trees. Home Depot already paid a $20,000 fine for cutting down trees and when asked if they wanted to replace the trees they said no we'll pay the fine. Compared to other mall parking lots with no trees we at least have canopy and they almost block The Ho Depot sign. Now if we can get them to put locks on their shopping carts we won't find so many stray carts in the neighborhood.
