Shell Lumber is expanding

Shell Lumber is expanding. They bought Juanita Castro's pharmacy. Let's all support Shell, it's nice to see them investing in the community.

Agreed. They should receive our support - I know I have no intention of stepping foot inside Hell Depot!

It would be interesting to see what happens to Home Depot if no one in the Grove shopped there.

You all are intending to continue to go to Shell right?

I really WANT to be a supporter of Shell Lumber but it is so expensive. I used to go there on occasion because Home Depot on 8th street is always understaffed and I'd rather not wait in a long line. BUT, for larger purchases, it has been tough to justify the prices at Shell.

And yes, I know that they will match anyone's price. I've heard it all before. Am I supposed to go to Home Depot, write down all the prices for things I need, and then go buy it down the street?

I'll just go to where the prices are better, thanks. Not to mention, Home Depot's hours are better and they are open all day on Sunday. It was not until Home Depot showed interest in the grove location that Shell even considered opening on Sunday (A good day to do home improvememt projects).

I would gladly shop at shell if they were open after work, when I could go there. Unfortunately their hours force me to use the spiteful home depot, which is conveniently located in Grove Gate Shopping Center and is open late.

For many years I have shopped at Shell Lumber, and not for the free popcorn! They have the best selection of exotic wood, and nice fixture. But overall, the service is personal and very good. All they need are missing is a garden area. Shell Lumber is A rated, unlike Home Depot.

Shell Lumber has alway been there to support the Grove for everything; they contribute trucks and materials for the Mango Strut, the Eagle Scouts, the Women's Club, the dog park, to name a few, and they have always given us gift certificates for events, the Great Coconut Grove Picnic, Crimewatch, and the recent Paris Hilton party, etc. They are on Code 33 and give l0% on all paint. They will meet and beat competitors prices, just present other ads and they will meet the price. Shell's prices are competitive. HD is here illegally and that is still being challenged. Support the company that has always been here for us!

The customer support I experienced was amazing at my inaugural trip to Home Depot in the Grove. I hope it continues... it was a far cry from 8th Street and even the Pinecrest store!

Well when you are the only person shopping in the place, of course you're going to be waited on.

Boycott Home Depot. Shop Shell Lumber.

Word is that most of the cars in the HD parking lot are employees' cars. Word on the street is that profits are not even close to what they expected. Keep up the good work Coconut Grove! Let's continue to show them they can't force themselves into a neighborhood where they are illegal and not wanted.

I love the new Home Depot! Sure, I would have prefered the Max Strang design but this one will due for now. It is so convenient and so clean and the staff is so helpful. I've been three times this week already!

I always check local hardware stores before going to home depot, even if prices are higher. Usually they are comparable and for wood or moulding Shell always beats home depot. Plus the staff knows their products.

My husband & I are crafters & we both love Shell Lumber. We live way down south & drive almost an hour to get there just for the service and specialty products they carry. We walk into a Home Depot & our nerves are completely jangled by the time we get out of there. Their intercom system drives us bonkers! Service is nonexistant & you can't find anything. But on the rare occassion that you do find something, the price won't be loaded into their system & the register staff just stares at you with no idea how to correct the situation

People complain about the short hours but I live in the neighborhood and there is nothing worse than having trucks and forklifts beeping during dinner. ot to mention the traffic. I feel bad for people who live near a home depot and put up with all the traffic and noise throughout the evening. I do my shopping at shell lumber on saturday mornings and never have a problem. Also free snow cones on the weekends!! Can't beat that!

i used to work there in Hell shitty lumber and higher management got no respect whatsoever to the employees especially the lumber guys they think they can ride you and pick on you even if you are breaking your back for them. It was my worst job i had; thank god i quit. And hey they are a rip off in some areas like plywood.
