Manny and his performing monkeys

Old Grover has been busy these days. Check out his Gonzalez Indian. You can click on the image above for a larger version.

We tried to make a photo of Manny up Jorge Perez's ass, but that would be too vulgar. Just picture it in your head. Green Mayor. LOLOLOLOL

Is it true Spence-Jones owes Manny Diaz's law firm over $250,000? If yes, can Manny demand the money at any time?

I am sure she is paying it off one vote at a time like a good little puppet.

Everyone might want to start thinking about why Sarnoff and Regelado automatically vote in opposition to these three. Are they so interested in re-election votes that they miss the importance of the issues they are voting on?

Waiting until the final commission meeting to request developer benefits was too late, Mr. Sarnoff. If you had been a little more proactive in working with the developer, instead of just "bitching" about the big-bad developers (like those on this blog) -- you probably could have gained much more for our district.

It's time for the Grove to incorporate! We're 0-2. We know the City of Miami doesn't care at all about what Grove residents want.

The problem with Coconut Grove is that we are a part of Miami.

I know that deannexation has been tried and failed several times but perhaps we have to try again.

At the very least we need some consessions from Miami since the Grove provides 70% of its income.

We need our Commissioner to make decisions for our district on our behalf.

We need to figure out a way that Commissioners from other districts may not be given a say in determining our districts future that does not have anything to do with their district.

I can’t believe that Miami or the courts will allow three Commissioners from other districts to determine our future.

This "Gang of Three" Mercy rezoning vote must be vetoed by Mayor Diaz or overturned in a court of law.

Or some of us better start looking for a home in Coral Gables.

Pehaps Coral Gables may wish to annex Coconut Grove!

I just went to the Jane Goodall exhibit at the Metrozoo. I was reminded that chimpanzees are very intelligent. And independent-minded. This picture is an insult to monkeys everywhere.

you know the city has gone to hell when you conclude a species that entertains itself by scatching its own A$$ and then sniffing its finger can outperform the majority of our commission.

Sanchez, Gonzalez and Spence-Jones could just stay in the offices smoking cigarettes and wait for their staffs to call them out to vote. Why do they bother listening to testimony when their votes are predetermined?

Given the sentiments expressed above re: deannexation, I would like to reiterate somtheing I wrote a few blogs ago:

"I'm all for secession from the City of Miami, but the odds are pretty well stacked up against that ever happening. BUT, there may be another avenue to consider that would give the Grove and other Miami neighborhoods a little more autonomy and self-governance while continuing to be a part of the City of Miami.... COMMUNITY COUNCILS.

These already exist in many parts of the country, inlcuding right here in unincorporated Miami-Dade County, and essentially allow neighborhoods to make decisions re: their own zoning, and act as an advisory board on a range of other issues. The County's Community Councils can only be overriden by a super-majority vote of the commission. Thus, using Mercy as an example, a theoretical Coconut Grove Community Council could have voted down the zoning change, and it would have taken 4 out of 5 Commissioners to override that decision (actual vote was 4-3, so the denial would stand).

There is no way in hell the City Commissioners would ever initiate this concept themselves, so it would most likely need to come from the County or State as a general law applying to all large cities (over 50,000 residents?). Both of those entities have the authority and power to do it, all that is needed is the political will. And I'll tell you this... if no one steps up soon to take this on, I know someone who is prepared to run for office in the next election under this platform. Stay tuned... "

Let’s Explore Ways To Help Make Coconut Grove More Independent.
By now most Grovites are totally fed up with being pushed around by the City of Miami in spite of the fact that we contribute over 70% of its budget.
How many more Home Depots, Fire Fee Fiascos, 27th Ave Metro Projects, Grovenor and now the latest Mercy Hospital Illegal Rezoning can we put up with?
How many more times must we witness City Commissioners from out side our District 2 making decisions that will have a negative effect on Coconut Grove
for years to come?
How many more Grovites have to give up and accept the fact that Coconut Grove is a just a suburb of Miami or they can just move away because they are
so disappointed in the direction that we have been heading?
Post your ideas right here on Coconut Grove Grapevine.
Please also e-mail me your ideas so we may stay in touch.
Perhaps some talented, passionate, and community minded attorneys would like to champion our Coconut Grove independence efforts (probono).
Coconut Grove needs your help, it will be the most proud part of your legacy and you are guaranteed some great PR for your efforts.
Anyone know of an attorney that specializing in Native American Treaties?
Perhaps we can argue the case that like the Seminoles we in Coconut Grove have been cheated and that we never surrendered our freedom.
Perhaps some may wish to lead the way to more independence, have meetings, strategies and conduct fundraisers.
What are your ideas pertaining Coconut Grove independence?
1. Community Council
2. Deannexation
3. Requesting annexed by Coral Gables, Key Biscayne or South Miami
4. Declaring that we were illegally annexed by Miami and that we are still independent since we were incorporated 25 year before that of Miami

I'm sure that whoever made up that nonsense about the Grove contributing 70% of the City's tax base is having a good giggle at everyone's expense as the ridiculous canard circulates as "a fact."

I think that Harry means to refer to all of District 2, not just the Grove.

District 2 generates 65% to perhaps 70% of the City's revenue. The other Districts spend their time plotting how to get their hands on our money.

Dist 5 generates only 1% or so of the City's revenues but they demand 20% to 35% of the City's resources. Many people say money spent in Dist 5 disappears into a "black hole".

Too bad three commissioners make such poor voting choices. Perhaps they could spend August at Harvard taking a courses on government and planning.

It was another important commissioners meeting at Miami City Hall. Manny the hypnotist, and part time Mayor openly announces that: "I'm here to put you into a trance; I intend to hypnotize each and every commissioner and staff member."

The skepticism was palpable as Manny withdrew a beautiful antique pocket watch from his suit pocket. "I want you each to keep your eye
on this antique watch. It's a very special watch. It's been in my family for
six generations."

He began to swing the watch gently back and forth while quietly chanting,
"Watch the watch, watch the watch, watch the watch..."

The commissioners became mesmerized as the watch swayed back and forth, light gleaming off its polished surface. Glazed pairs of eyes followed the swaying watch , until, suddenly, it slipped from the Mayor's fingers and fell to the floor, shattering into a hundred pieces.

"SHIT!" said Manny.

It took three days to clean up City Hall.

(Moral of the story: There's hope after all in cleaning up City Hall!)
