Grovite Lee Marks shows off pictures of the 2001 Great Grove Bicycle Race.
Lee ran the race from 1997 until its demise.
It was started in 1972 by Joe Avalos who ran it (rode it?) for 15 years.
During its time, it was one of the most popular events in the Grove - part of it's fun-filled past. Gone now, along with the Bed Race, another popular Grove event.
The Bicycle Race had up to 500 cyclists at one point.
In 2011, Monty Trainer asked if I would team up with Lee again and get the race started up again. We met with the BID and had plans, but there was another race planned to come through the Grove and it never seemed to get off the ground. It's explained here.
Three cyclists who participated in the bike races - Lee Marks, Gaby Larrea and Howard Srebnick.
