I liked the story in yesterday's Herald about Coral Gables Vice Mayor Bill Kerdyk. He is stepping down from Gables politics which would make it the first time in 70 years, that a Kerdyk was not involved. His father and uncle were city commissioners previously, starting in 1957.
What I liked is that the Kerdyks stood up for history and were against over-development. They didn't always get their way, but they proudly voted against many over-the-top projects, including the David Williams Condos on Biltmore Way, near the golf course. Frank Kerdyk, Bill's father was against the 12 story building, the height limit was just six stories at that time.
On April 2, 2015, Bill Kerdyk voted against the massive Mediterranean Village Project.
“I wish my final vote was a yes and not a no, but you have to vote your conscience up there on the dais. That’s how I feel. I’m concerned that there is too much intensity in the project and the overall structural impact it might bring to our residential community," he said.
I just wish the City of Miami would vote their consciences and not always see dollar signs.
Here's the whole article in the Herald.
Why would these people vote against a project, that is basically the project they approved 7 years ago, which went belly up, leaving giant terrible holes in the middle of the gables. I work right around the corner from that mess. It's ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the pit from Pawnee.
