Sundays on the Porch with George, is presenting a series of engaging, free community events showcasing the Coral Gables the Merrick House and Gardens. Celebrate Earth Day at Merrick House on Sunday, April 12 with the "Go-Green Gables Eco-Fair. From 1 to 4 pm, the event will be everything green. The Tropical Audubon Society, South Florida's Voice of Conservation, will illuminate pressing topical issues that affect our economy and quality of life from saving the vanishing Pine Rocklands, to preserving our historic Redland and Homestead agricultural buffer from saltwater intrusion, protecting our precious fresh water aquifer and advocating for Biscayne Bay, Florida Bay and the Everglades.
This will be the place to bring your broken or obsolete electronics, computers and household appliances including cell phones, tvs, and anything that runs by battery or plugging into electricity. They will even take your old sneakers and eyeglasses and they'll have them all recycled.
Music will be provided by Marcus Magalhaes on the banjo.
Eco Artists include Nancy Martini and Becky Quiroga, there will be Earth-friendly Crafts, hand-made fair trade goods, children’s crafting, pet adoption resources, vintage Clothing and accessories. Also fair trade edibles, “Drink Local” Miami Brewing Co. Craft Beer tasting and popular food trucks: Sakaya Kitchen/savory; Sugar Yummy Mama/sweet (for purchase)
Welcoming remarks by Coral Gables Commissioner Vince Lago will start the day off and Scout Troop 7 will hold the US Flag-raising ceremony. Books & Books and the Coral Gables Museum will be featured, too.
Also the Edible Community Gardens Project will be presdent along with Edible South Florida magazine and the Tropical Audubon Society.
Docent-guided tours will take place at 2 and 3 pm for a nominal fee. Proceeds benefit Coral Gables Merrick House and the “Sundays on the Porch with George” Series.
