Security issues we don't think about

I read an article in the InMan News about realtors and open houses. I never thought about it before but realtors are sitting ducks. There have been thefts, assaults and worse.

As you drive through Coconut Grove on weekends, you can see so many open house signs. In this day and age do they need body guards at open houses?

There was a report on the Today Show about a new app that makes keys for you, which sounds great, especially since I've had to return new keys to Shell Lumber and Home Depot many times since they don't fit. This new app called Keys Perfect, is supposed to be laser perfect. You take a photo of the key you would like duplicated and send them the image, they are then able to make the key for you. It costs $6.00 per key.

They say the problem with this is that anyone can snap a photo of your keys if they're laying out on a table or something and then they would have access to your house. The company doesn't do Medco keys or car keys.

How many times have we given keys to the valet or a workman or carwash guy. Makes you think twice now.

I recently wrote a story about lost keys and I showed a photo of my keys in the lock. A friend told me at the time to remove the photo for security reasons. I did.

  1. Non keyed dead bolts and a dog should be part of every every home security

  2. You should always separate the house keys from the rest of your keys. Your car registration, in your glove compartment has your home address. And, the valet knows how long you will probably be gone from your house.

  3. Also - Remove your garage door opener for the same reason as
    removing your keys. Especially
    at airport parking. The attendant
also knows how long you will be away, and when you return!!
