"Significant delinquent property taxes due"

marina
Things are heating up at the Grove Key Marina and Scotty's Landing, the county tax collector, Fernando Casamayor is giving them 30 days to pay up all the back taxes they owe.

I had to laugh at this one story I did yesterday, about the Thursday night summer boating event. Did you catch something in the story related to Scotty's? The story is here, check it out, I'll wait . . . .  did you catch it

Anyway, Al Crespo has the letters sent to Scotty Wessel, Grove Key and Scotty's owner asking for "significant delinquent property taxes due." That's such a nice way of saying, "WTF? You havent' paid in more than 30 year! Now you have 30 days to pay in full!"

As for the Scotty's/sailing story, what I was referring to was that Scotty's won't give away ice in the winter, or fire in hell, notice that the pitcher of beer that goes to the winning boat is "Provided by Sea Tow Key Biscayne." Huh? Scotty's can't even give a pitcher of beer to the winning team? They are there spending money, eating and drinking with their fellow boaters! And they can't give them a stupid pitcher of beer?

That's Scotty's. Horrible service matched only by the unbelievably overpriced... everything.

I would not set foot in Scotty's if they lowered their prices by 30%. It's a dump, the food is horrid, and the "I don't give a F***" attitude from ownership on down is pervasive.

Scotty is all about the view its the only place in Miami in my opinion that I can go and sit down have a drink eat whatever food spend time with family and friends with a nice view without breaking my bank. compared to other place with similar views or less views in Miami.Scottys needs to be renovated my someone that cares and not greedy.

I agree it is all about the view the Chart House view just like Scottys is AWESOME. The difference is Chart house has incredible food. Scotty's needs to be upgraded in food quality by someone that cares about the business and not raping the community for the view and bad quality food and or services depends on the day. I do think we as a community must have the opportunity to to have the option to either go to a fine dinning establishment like the Chart House for a romantic meal or brunch and also have the ability to go next door just to hang out in the sun shade and lay back and have some beers and food like Flanigan's quality.

A few years ago Monty's which was owned in part by a former Mayor Manny Diaz owed lots of taxes after he was elected. What does that tell you? Miami is a cesspool, vote everyone out of office.

Wow if I didn't pay my taxes or anyone else I know didn't pay, the house would have been forclosed upon and lien's in place long ago. Another banana republic sham again!

I have two questions, though:

1. Where has the city and its elected officials been all this time and why haven't they collected the taxes?

2. There is really criminal negligence from the part of elected officials. When is the government going to step in and sue the responsible parties?

Why would a renter be obligated to pay property taxes? I'm guessing many of the people who visit this site rent their homes/apartments, how many of them also pay their landlord's property taxes as well? It sounds like the City of Miami made another big property tax mistake, which would be similar (if not identical) to the mistake they made with the parking lots next to Marlins Stadium. (http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/Miami-Filed-to-Be-Exempt-from--141683023.html discusses the Marlins property tax issue.)

...and since we're taking this as an opportunity to complain about Scotty's, the service there is terrible! But the live music is nice
