St. Stephen's free tax service is back

St. Stephen’s Free Tax Prep Center is open and ready for clients. As they do each year, they prepare and e-file tax returns for individuals earning $56,000 and less, taxpayers with disabilities, and taxpayers with limited English proficiency. The service is free of charge, ensuring accurate returns, including all credits and deductions to which taxpayers are entitled.

They are a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site, a program of the IRS. The IRS created VITA more than 50 years ago to help taxpayers claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), considered by many to be the nation’s largest anti-poverty program. The upcoming 2019 tax season, starting Thursday January 30, 2020, will be St. Stephen's 10th

Nearly a quarter of taxpayers who are eligible for the EITC do not claim it. Tax preparation services can be expensive, an average of nearly $300 last filing season in Miami-Dade County. The industry is also rife with unscrupulous practices, such as charging a percentage of the refund as a tax prep fee, claiming bogus tax credits to which the taxpayer is not entitled to increase refunds, and pushing high-interest, short-term refund anticipation loans.  At St. Stephen’s, taxpayers receive excellent, friendly service, and accurate tax returns, all free of charge.

To make an appointment all: 786-254-1910 or mail:  StStephensPC@comcast.net.

St. Stephen's is at 2750 McFarlane Road.
