Woman's Club hosts yearly seniors holiday party

The 19th Annual Woman’s club of Coconut Grove Seniors’ Holiday Party  West Grove Seniors enjoyed a good time this year at the 19th annual Holiday Party last week at the Woman’s Club of Coconut Grove.

This annual event hosts senior citizens from various West Grove churches: St. James Baptist, Macedonia Baptist, Christ Episcopal, and St. Paul AME; The Golden Years Club and Stirrup Plaza apartments.

Each guest received an LED solar powered lantern thanks to support from Cycle Party and The Katsikos Group, Inc. and the Richard Vanderburg Jazz Quintet entertained everyone with cool jazz. The seniors were on the dance floor doing the Electric Slide, the Twist, and even created a fun Conga Line! Once again, Commissioner Ken Russell provided beautiful and healthy food trays. Thomas Day and C. Mullens Coach Lines provided a bus to transport guests.

Senator Jose Javier Rodriguez visited with his young son and Irene Secada from Congresswoman Donna Shalala’s office joined the fun, Yolanda Abrams represented Representative Nicholas Duran, Shanise Watson brought greetings from Commissioner Xavier Suarez, and Madeline Pacheco represented the Coconut Grove NET office.

The members of the club provided support in many ways to ensure that the party was a success. A hard-working committee led by Yvette Bravo and Sherrill Martin also included Betty Kinsey, Pat Vignani, Virginia Yermoli, Barbara Vidargas, Nancy Marmesh, Mayda Septien, Carolyn Beame, Nancy Buell and Susan Furman. A fabulous troop 26 fun, flexible, and hardworking elves and hostesses set up the room in holiday splendor, attended to our guests ensuring their comfort and enjoyment, and joined in the fun.

The spirit of the holidays was in full bloom at the Woman’s Club as each happy guest left with at least one gift and a bag of cookies. A fabulous raffle of over 30 items ended the festivities. Special thanks to Nancy Buell for the generous gifts provided for the raffle.
