How much do you tip your Freebee driver?
I'm not going to change my ways, I'm just curious. I've always been a big tipper, not sure why. I think I heard long ago that that extra dollar means more to the server/driver than it does to you. And also I bartended for a couple of years so tips mean something to me. One time a guy gave me a quarter, I gave it back to him and said, "Here, take this, you need it more than I do." True story.
I was giving the Freebee drivers a $5 tip. A friend told me that was too much, so I cut it down to $2 to $3, but sometimes I still give $5. In all reality, Freebee just takes us a few blocks at best; after all, it is just run inside the neighborhood, so the trips are not long.
Uber I give $5, unless it's a more expensive trip. But in Miami, Uber is quite cheap. Sometimes the tip is more than the actual ride. I've paid $3.80 at times to be taken from the service station home early in the morning, so I do give a better tip since $3.80 is quite low for a ride to anywhere, although Freebee is free so maybe that makes no sense to say that. Usually the airport either way is less than $20 depending on the time of day, where in NYC I've paid $50 or more for an Uber to the airport. I looked at my most recent trips in NY, I've paid $59, $41 and $35 before tip.
We tip Uber, cabs and Freebees, yet we don't tip the free trolley at all. I read recently that people tip their flight attendants and the flight attendants gladly accept it. That's a strange concept to me. I can just see people slipping them bills as they exit the plane.

Hi - Thank you for your very informative and free blog. :) Freakonomics radio recently aired an interesting segment on tipping. Apparently, men are bigger tippers than women. Hmm. To answer your question, I've never hopped a ride with the Freebee, but I'm usually a generous tipper re Lyft and otherwise - like you I leave around $5. If I did ride with the Freebee I'd likely give $3. Thank you! Jacqueline
i am a uber driver and i must say that people generally don't tip even if you provide great service. Only the tourists in miami beach give some tips. General the uber prices is ridicule cheap compare what you pay for general items in miami. You pay 35 dollars for a apple pie in coconut grove and you pay 5 dollars to get you in house and you think about to give a dollar tip in the driver. Thats the situation in miami.
