Miami Sailing Week is back for 10th year

It’s an anniversary year for Miami Sailing Week (MSW), and it’s an important one. Racing for the 10th time this popular event for both Miami and Coconut Grove will officially begin on Thursday March 7 until Sunday the 10.

Looking forward to sunny weather and great sailing conditions, 195 one-design sailing boats will compete in three different circles on Biscayne Bay extending on the South side of Miami’s Rickenbacker Causeway. Co-host Coconut Grove Sailing Club (CGSC) coordinates this year’s RC and on the water activities in collaboration with volunteers and members of local Yacht Clubs.

Activities will be taking place at Regatta Park and at the Sailing Club. “When someone steals your wind you must adjust your sails and be prepared to change course, and this is exactly what we began to do in 2018," said Gabriele Pedone MSW Event Chair and Founder.

“A year later with 195 entries we’re back to be Miami’s largest Spring Regatta and the third largest after the Orange Bowl and World Cup Series Miami.  Our hard work and professionalism is paying dividends; it feels great to be back at the top and be able to put this many sailors on the emerald waters of Biscayne Bay. We couldn't be prouder and, at the same time, we’re thankful towards our loyal partners; for this reason our Anniversary slogan is The Next Ten Years are here."

The even more popular Opti’s, consisting of 91 entries in the Championship fleet plus 52 in the Green fleet, will compete in this highly competitive Class with participants coming from as close as Coconut Grove to as far as Canada and the Caribbean. Thirty-three Laser’s will compete in the 4.7, Radial and Standard divisions. Returning for their fourth appearance at MSW is the A-Cat Class with 15 entrants expected to be on the starting line.

Miami Sailing Week is not only for the competition, but also an experimental program promoting sailing and sailing related activities; for this reason all proceeds will be donated to CGSC mission and youth programs.
