Those white boxy houses

3600 Hibiscus Street was destroyed last summer

Regarding the story on the Richard Neutra house in San Francisco that was destroyed and the person who destroyed the house had to rebuild it to specs, I've gotten comments about the fact that I said, "we don't like the white boxy houses here in the Grove." The story reminded me of the situation with the Dora Ewing house built by famous architect Alfred Browning Parker and it's true, not everyone hates the big white boxy houses, including me.

I do like the white boxy houses but not when they are built in the name of greed - not when they are put up after an historic house is destroyed and not when they are put up at the expense of 80% of the trees and foliage being destroyed to put them up and not when they are put up with zero lot lines or having five of them on a single family lot. That's what I meant to say.

And the photo above, which was part of our story, "A Murder Caught in the Act," well' I won't apologize for this. It should have never happened. Or the mess on Ingraham Highway, where a lot was illegally split and now the property sits abandoned.
