State Senate approves Aaron Cohen Act

No word on finding the driver who left the bicycle accident regarding David Hertzig the other day, but interestingly enough, by a unanimous vote Wednesday, the Florida Senate passed a bill creating tougher penalties for drivers who leave the scene of a fatal accident, it's called the Aaron Cohen Protection Act, named after a bicyclist who was killed by a driver who hit and run.

Traffic deaths due to hit & run were 1395 in 2010, 1393 in 2010, and 1449 in 2011 the most recent years for which statistics were available. Today this problem is defined as a "national plague" Mr. Hertzig must be an amazing man. An 85 year old father, riding a bike to work, to support himself and two children. Has a fund been set up to help Mr. Hertzig? Jobie Steppe

The Aaron Cohen Act, which I referred to in a previous comment about this unfortunate incident, was passed in March 2014. It has been law for more than four years.--Hank Sanchez-Resnik, Executive Director, Bike Coconut Grove and Director, Transportation & Mobility Committee, Coconut Grove Village Council
