Dan Leslie Bowden

Former Ransom-Everglades English teacher and Grove resident Dan Leslie Bowden, passed away Friday at age 89 after a long illness. Many Grove residents would attend Dan's annual reading of Truman Capote's "A Christmas Memory," because he was such a colorful, entertaining speaker. He was the heart and soul of Ransom Everglades school.

I didn't know Mr. Bowden, but I would see him at Starbucks so many times over the years. He seemed to know everyone who came in, so many of them were his students and former students.

Ransom is planning a memorial.

Dan, whom I called Mr. Bowden even into my fifties, was a lot of fun to be around, and when he had you in his clutches, you didn't speak with him so much as listen to him while he spoke!
