Join the Coconut Grove Rotary Club luncheon this week when they present Ellen Kempler, co-founder and director of Partners for Self-Employment (PSE,). She will address the club on Thursday, May 10.

A non-profit that makes small loans and provides business training for low income individuals, PSE was founded by Kempler and Kathleen Close in 1993. Since that time, it has provided invaluable training, access to credit, financial counseling, savings programs for future homeowners, peer support to small businesses, as well as loans to more than 8,000 clients in Miami-Dade and South Broward. PSE’s mission is carried forward by RESULTS, a grass roots lobbying effort to end the worst aspects of poverty. RESULTS works to influence media and legislation in the areas of health, education, and economic development for the purpose of ending poverty.

Kempler taught English, Philosophy, and Ethics and Leadership in Miami-Dade Schools for 35 years. She was one of five teachers inducted into the National Teachers Hall of Fame in 2001 and is in the Florida Women of Achievement.

The Rotary Club of Coconut Grove meets every Thursday at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club, 2990 South Bayshore Drive at 12:30 pm. The cost of the meeting is $25 with lunch or $10 without lunch.
