Alma is modern dining with Spanish soul

We have a new restaurant in Coconut Grove called Alma. They are located at 3206 Grand Avenue, where McDonald Street ends.

Maria Polanco, who owns Alma with her husband Sergio says, "Pretty much our food aims to  take traditional Spanish cooking and dishes from around Spain and give them a more modern twist. So they are not the 'traditional' Spanish tapas people might expect."

But there are a lot of tapas-style dishes on the menu with lots of other special items.

Tapas include a Spanish cheese platter, quince and toasted bread; Roasted beets, smoked sour cream, salmon roe and dill; Ajo blanco, Japanese mackerel, grapefruit with Sherry reduction; also Veal sweetbread, fino glaze, sunchokes, pickled mushrooms and mustard seeds.

Tapas are $9 and up. Most run about $15.

Their main dishes include Honey-spiced duck breast, Braised lamb shank, Dry aged rib eye, Seared swordfish steak and more and desserts include White chocolate, Crema Catalana and Caramelized torrija brioche.

Alma is currently open evenings and in a month or so they will include a lunch menu.

You may see the full dinner menu here.
