Will expanding the CRA into Village West save it?
Commissioner Ken Russell is pushing for the expansion of the downtown CRA into Village West, he feels it will save the historic nature, or what's left of the historic nature of the community.
He has already taken action regarding the slumlords who are a large part of the problem in Village West, from a column he wrote in the Miami Herald, Ken says, "As city commissioner, I have directed the city to sue the slumlords, improve the infrastructure and begin a planning process of affordability through inclusionary zoning. My legislative changes to the city code will allow for historic preservation of the last remaining shotgun and wood frame homes that belonged to the original settlers and founders of Miami. "
Now if he would just commit to reducing the allowable size of new homes being built in the Grove to 50% of the lot area, down from the current 80% size.
There is a petition to that affect here demanding that the change be made.
