Miami Waterkeeper is subject of Rotary luncheon

The guest speaker at this Thursday's Coconut Grove Rotary luncheon is Kelly Cox, Program Director of Miami Waterkeeper.   

Miami Waterkeeper’s mission "is to defend, protect, and preserve South Florida’s watershed through citizen engagement and community action rooted in sound science and research. They work to ensure swimmable, drinkable, fishable water for all". Through their efforts, they hope to maintain a clean and vibrant South Florida watershed and coastal culture for generations to come. 

Kelly joined Miami Waterkeeper as Staff Attorney & Program Director in September 2016. She received a J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law and an M.P.S. in Marine Conservation from the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School for Marine and Atmospheric Science in 2016. While at the University of Miami, Kelly was President of the Environmental Law Society, President of the Miami Law DiveBar Chapter, and was Student Writing Editor on the Inter-American Law Review. Kelly has written extensively on various topics in environmental law including aquatic invasive species, mangrove management, marine zoning, submerged lands, nuclear cost recovery, sustainable tourism, endangered species, eminent domain, coastal zone management, clean water, and climate change. She is currently teaching environmental law at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School. She graduated in 2013 from North Carolina State University with two B.S. degrees in Natural Resources and Political Science.

Kelly will be giving a PowerPoint presentation illustrating what Miami Waterkeeper is currently involved with in our community.  

The luncheon is at 12:15 pm, Thursday, October 5 at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club (2990 South Bayshore Drive). The cost for lunch is $25. Please RSVP at coconutgroverotaryclub@gmail.com. You do not have to be a member to join the luncheon.

Parking is restricted at the Sailing Club to members only. Parking is available at St. Stephen's Church, the parking garage next to the Sonesta Hotel and the street fronting the Sailing Club, all close to the club.
