Trains or buses?
So he claimed in his campaign last year that we need "More Rail Lines." And just look how he has handled the Coconut Grove Playhouse.
Ironically, Elon Musk, who I daresay knows a bit more than the mayor, has verbal approval to build a NY-DC Hyperloop, that would be underground and transport people back and forth between the two cities in about half an hour!
I don't think I have ever ridden a Dade County bus but I sure have ridden Metrorail. Up north in New York, DC and all over New England, the fastest way around is by rail. You can take the train to the plane, you can be in Boston from Maine in an hour, it's only a few hours from Boston to NY and so on. The speed and efficiency are amazing.
I just thought it was ironic that one of the most forward-seeking guys is trying to build a new transit system up north and down here, the mayor thinks buses are the way to go other than fast, efficient and clean rail lines.

How is the playhouse efforts coming along? Any further updates
I'm surprised they did not accidently demolish it with the buildings next door.
The building next door is going to be used as an excuse to demolish the playhouse.
Carlos Gimenez is a Trump supporting Republican who believes in Toll roads and I95 Express lanes to keep the working class in their place.
It is obvious to anyone that has visited Europe or Japan that Trains and Trollies help make the commuting traveling experience more pleasant than driving or even being on a bus. If Trains are 19th Century technology, than I support more of them in the USA and especially in South Florida. Bright Line and TriRail are investing big bucks to set up stations in Downtown Miami. Best way to alleviate traffic congestion on US1 is to implement better mass transit by extending MetroRail to Florida City and getting folks off the road. Due to increased cost of housing and rentals many service personal are now forced to live further south. They spend hours each day in traffic and burn gallons of fossil fuels. Buses are a poor option for them. That is why it would be greatly beneficial to our community if MDC would keep their word and extend MetroRail further south to Homestead or better yet to Florida City. I keep reading that newer MetroRail cars are being prepared for delivery soon. But there is never any mention of the deplorable condition of the stations, broken elevators, broken escalators, graffiti and litter. MetroRail has become considerably more useful now that the Orange Line finally goes to Miami International Airport (which is where it should have started in the first place no thanks to the Taxicab lobby). The Airport Station also makes it most convenient to transfer to TriRail heading north. Have you ever taken the Green Line to the Metrorail Transit Station to TriRail and Amtrak? It’s really quite awful, windy and wet when it rains and the surrounding neighborhood looks like a blighted ghetto. After all it is often the first impression that some folks see of Miami when they arrive heading south on TriRail and Amtrak and transfer to Metrorail. It really requires some serious TLC. Miami could finally become a real world class city once we get our transportation act together.
We need fewer cars, more trains. Any fool can see that, with the apparent exception of Carlos Gimenez.
I took the train yesterday from the Grove to the Civic Center. Could not have been more convenient, and the mixture of old and young, rich and poor made me feel like I was in a real city. It was especially fun to pass the clogged traffic lanes on Dixie Highway.
We definitely need to join the "19th century" and get some trains or light rail system in Miami. I visited Madrid for the 1st time in 2000 & rode the bullet train to Barcelona. An 8 hour drive in a smooth 3 hour train ride! Now its 2017 & this technology still doesn't exist in the US?! Whats wrong with us?
for trains/trolleys to work financially, we need more residential density, which is exactly the opposite of what this community wants. can't have your cake ....
