Changes at 3480 Main Highway; again

The 3480 Main Highway site today.
The renovation of Coconut Grove continues with the office building construction started at the 3480 Main Highway site, which is next to Greenstreet Cafe.

The two restaurants currently on the site were demolished, this is a photo of the site today. The site will have 44,000 square feet of office space and a 6500 square foot restaurant. You can see all the details in a Real Deal article here.

It's a shame the restaurants didn't make it there. Remember the Greek place Acropolis Greek Taverna? They were good. I remember the construction of that building had people wondering what was going in there. They took forever to build and now it's dust.

That Colombian restaurant next door never seemed to make it. I was at an opening party there once and there were other Chamber events, there too.

Funny story - before it opened, the PR girl brought me by to meet the owners. The place was locked, but she said, I know how to get in. She takes me in the back of the place, we are jumping over fences and garbage bins and we pull open the bottom door. We get in and go upstairs to where the offices were. We pull open the office door and there are three gangster types with black bags and money in front of them. They pull guns on us! Luckily she ran out in front of me and said, "Wait! It's me!"

A scene right out of the 1980s - but it was the 2000s!

Before it was the Colombian place, it was a place called Sekai, a Pan/Asian place. I remember their opening night party. They invited the whole down and it was like a riot. People acted like they never saw food before (of course it was all free). Before that, it was Senor Frogs. I also believe the Pan/Asian place was called Koi at one time.
