CocoWalk looking for Hot Dog Eating contestants

CocoWalk is holding the 9th annual Hot Dog Eating Contest on July 4. I was involved with the first few, it's hard to believe it's nine years already!

We used to hold the contest right along with the Coconut Hunt, remember that? That's a lot of work. I ended up doing that all by myself in the end, it would be nice if someone brought it back again.

Anyway, the Hot Dog eating contest is July 4th at 6 pm in the Center of the plaza at CocoWalk.

Cinepolis Movie Theater sponsors the event. With 200 hot dogs available to eat, competitors have ten minutes to chow down on as many hot dogs as possible. Each compeititor will receive a limited edition CocoWalk 9th Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest Tshirt.

The Hot Dog Eating Champion will be crowned on stage earning up to $300.00 in prizes.

The runner-up will take home $150.00 in prizes.

Head to www.CocoWalk.com for the full list of rules and regulations and to download an application for your chance to enter the contest. For more info:

The BID will be having fireworks and a picnic in Peacock Park from 6 to 9:30 pm. This event is free.

The Barnacle will have its usual old fashioned picnic from 11 am to 4 pm.  There will be music, food, games and crafts for the whole family. Cost: $5 ages 13 and up. $3 ages 6-12. Under 6 free.

The Barnacle is at 3485 Main Highway.

I love hotdogs and I like contests but!!!
Usually I try to be positive in my posts but contests that promote overeating in the extreme should be banned. I would rather see a silly contest on pie throwing, etc. rather than one that exults a very negative unhealthy behavior.
