Pineapple Cup regatta coming through town

Just as one regatta finished, another rolls (sails?) into town. The 33rd Pineapple Cup Montego Bay Race sets off from Miami on Friday, February 3 at 2 pm.

150 sailors will race 811 nautical miles from Miami to Montego Bay to compete for the prestigious Pineapple Cup.

Since its inception, the Pineapple Cup has been a must do for top-tier racing programs around the globe. Notable sailors, including 3-time winner Ted Turner, have dubbed the race "the best ocean race in the world."

The Crew Party is here in the Grove at Biscayne Bay Yacht Club on February 2 and the race starts off from South Beach on Friday.

Sailors competing in the Pineapple Cup include Volvo Ocean Race veterans Mark Towill, Charlie Enright, Phil Harmer and Nick Dana and Volvo Ocean Race and America’s Cup veteran Chris Larson along with former Team Canada Sailing Olympian  Jay Cross
