Woman's Club hosts historic evening

There was a party to celebrate the installation of various markers around Coconut Grove that point out places of interest.

The Woman's Club of Coconut Grove was the location of the event where Joyce Nelson, president of the Coconut Grove Civic Club hosted the party. Above, District 2 Commissioner Ken Russell welcomes the crowd.

The Coconut Grove Civic Club was founded in 1923, they procured the signs from the Florida Department of State, Division of Historical Resources, and donated them to be placed at the Coconut Grove Playhouse, Coconut Grove Library, Housekeepers Club of Coconut Grove/Woman’s Club of Coconut Grove, Pan American Seaplane Base and Terminal Building, US Coast Guard Air Station at Dinner Key, Mariah Brown House, Evangelist Street/Charles Avenue, and the E.W.F. Stirrup House. This is part of a program to promote cultural tourism, education, awareness, and to commemorate these historic sites as important elements of the City of Miami's history.
