Special Gallery Walk on Saturday

Bathing Cap, Ada by Alex Katz
Saturday, October 1, 2016 kicks off the Coconut Grove BID’s annual Fashion + Art + Music (FAM) Night series of events. Live music, artists and performers will be on the streets throughout the business district and at CocoWalk - the first Saturday of each month (weather permitting) from 6 to 9 pm. But this weekend, on Saturday, September 10, the Coconut Grove Arts Festival and FrameWorks are doing their own things.

The Arts Festival Gallery is exhibiting "Layered Stories," from 7 to 10 pm. Fiber artists include Barbara Watler, Andrea Huffman, Bonnie Dubbin Askowitz, Melani Kane Brewer, Karen Nastro, Nancy Billings, Linda Eads, Maya Schonenberger and Marianne Williamson.

The works are reflective of its overall theme Layered Stories and of the strong core of established and emerging fiber artists who use a multi-layered approach and a variety of materials.

This is “Banana Bloom” by Barbara Watler.
“Cracks in my Composure" is by Marianne Williamson

The artists in the exhibition will also be demonstrating their commitment to the South Florida community by donating a 5” x 7” piece of work for auction during the opening reception. Proceeds from sales of the auction during the exhibition’s opening event will go to the Women’s Fund of Miami-Dade, which works to improve the lives of women and girls through grant making, research, advocacy and education.

“Layered Stories,” a group exhibition, will run September 10 through October 23. The exhibition’s opening reception and fundraising event will be held on Saturday. Refreshments will be served.

The Arts Festival Gallery is at the Mayfair Atrium.

The Williams McCall Gallery at FrameWorks has Alex Katz's work on display from 6 to 9 pm. Also exhibiting are Lee Brock, Ernie Bynum, Debbie Carfagno, Eliot Hess and Lisa Remeny. This is an excellent art space upstairs at 3196 Commodore Plaza.
