Help out on International Coast Cleanup Day

Saturday, September 17 is International Coast Cleanup Day, spearheaded by the Ocean Conservancy. This is the world's largest single day cleanup event with cleanups in all 50 states and over 100 countries. In 2015, 800,000 volunteers worldwide removed 18 million pounds of marine debris. This is Dave Doebler, with his loaded up, trash-filled kayak.

VolunteerCleanup.org is organizing Miami-Dade County's effort with over 40 sites across the county. We have a few in Coconut Grove: Clarington Island with Coconut Grove Sailing Club, Peacock Park, Kennedy Park and Kenneth Myers Bayside Park. Registration is at 9 am and clean-up starts at 9:30 am.

Last year, in Miami Dade, 2,200 volunteers removed 17,500 pounds of marine debris on this one single day of service.

Community service hours are given for students.

You must register online here, where you'll find all of the county locations that you might particpate in.
