Gianna D's work featured at Sonesta

Sonesta Coconut Grove ushers in the new art season in the Grove with a special opening tonight (Saturday, September 10) from 7-10 pm. Miami-born and educated, the internationally acclaimed artist Gianna D, with her vibrant colors and unexpected textures, is featured in tonight’s solo exhibition.  Above is "Home Sweet Home - pixelated sunset," made with ribbons.

The widely anticipated monthly art event (except for a couple summer months) is catered by Sonesta’s award-winning Panorama Restaurant and offers lite-bites and champagne.  The already art-filled lobby is turned into a comfortable exhibition space filled with satisfied art fans and friends looking, chatting, snacking and enjoying the bubbly.

Artist, Gianna D (D for Dibartolomeo), left, loves color and diversity in her colorful and engaging works.  In the category of mixed-media, you’ll find her brightly colored textured works to include images and designs made from push-pins, beads, ribbons, toy soldiers, dollops of paint, beads and who know what else inspires her creativity.

Gianna says, “My work is characterized by the unconventional use of ordinary materials.”

Gianna has been exhibited locally in several galleries and at Art BaseI, Spectrum and the Coconut Grove Arts Festival.  Her works also have been exhibited nationally and internationally, including in venues in India and the UK.

At left is "beLOVE," pailettes, pins, and beads.

Sonesta’s special opening coincides with tonight’s openings at FrameWorks and Coconut Grove Arts Festival Gallery.

Sonesta Coconut Grove is a full-service luxury hotel at 2889 McFarlane Rd.
