It's the United States, which in part was created so people could be free to create enterprise and earn a buck, or go further West to be left alone. The brick restaurants cost a lot to operate, plus pay rent and taxes. The food wagons provide quality meals and probably at a lesser price and who doesn't crave a less expensive interesting meal & environment? Well, since the Grove speaks to diversity; how do these two greet each other and coordinate several special bi-weekly, say the restaurant's lower their prices and the mobile eateries raise their prices and the event could bring in the general public in larger number. Coordinate. Jobie Steppe
You think the food truck owner hasn't paid permit fees and taxes? And not to mention have you priced what it cost to buy and outfit a food truck? They might not paying rent, but I bet dollars to donuts that they have a hefty truck payment every month!
I just don't understand why Food Trucks are the Devil as far as Coconut Grove is concerned.
Having a Food Truck Round-Up once a week on the grounds of the Woman's Club would be a real treat for Groveites and great exposure for the Food Truck's. Lets hope the Woman's Club sees this a wonderful opportunity to earn extra cash and attract more folks there.
Of course food trucks have expenses, period! But one would have to be ignorant, (Ignorant, not to know) that there is absolutely no comparison between food truck expenses vs: taxes, rent, cooks, food, waitresses, A/C, electrical, cleaning, equipment, lighting, and other overhead cost, etc., etc., etc. A food truck cost about $65,000.00, is self contained, needs only about 2 people, usually the owner and wife and one family member to assist. Just 2/3 people take a piece of the pie and usually live in the same home. Yes, these three people do it all and probably work about 14 hrs daily or about 3 times weekly to make their dream come true, but there is no comparison, AT ALL as to their expenses.
Today folks are motivated by organic food, which a restaurant chef can gather followers, but a food truck is here or there and of course that could translate to a new parking lot to go to, such as Home Depot. Personally I get better organic at my home morning, noon and night!
