La Plume writers contest now accepting registrations

Last year's winners.
The La Plume Young Writers contest is now accepting registrations for 2016. The writing contest is open to all Miami-Dade County students in grades 3-12. Students write a short story on a topic of their choice over the summer which are then judged by a panel of judges including professional writers, journalists and educators.

Grand Prize winners have their stories published and win cash prizes. Coconut Grove students have won many of the top prizes. The contest was created by Brigitte Kishlar of Miami Conservatory of Music and Felice Dubin of the Bookstore in the Grove in 2011 to encourage young people to write and read short stories.
