Lighting up Regatta Park

Regatta Park is lit up night, looks like red, white and blue along the pathways.

I like the neon.

Tom,
You know by now that I like most, if not all, the significant features of Regatta Park. I consider it well designed and appropriately installed. To me, it suggests thoughtful planing.
Based upon your photos, this colorful lighting will draw people for an evening stroll down this attractive allée. Even people passing in cars will be pleased. It complements the colorful monkey sculptures across Bayshore at Park Grove Towers. It has a colorful sailing regatta feel to it. Kudos to the designers, the parks department and the City of Miami.

Anon 7:38, that's funny. I was considering posting something like that but you beat me to it!!! That was my first thought when I saw a positive post about Regatta Park.

I like the park. There's some weird stuff about it, but, overall, it adds to my daily exercise routing. Prettier than trying to cut through the convention center.

The neon colors and the marble/granite look good. As does the rest of the new park, open space.. But the "careful planning" stopped when they unloaded those horrific, abominable concrete "benches" there.

Unless they had an insidious plan all along: to force people to keep walking or running, instead of sitting in those despicable things. In that case, great planning! People will certainly be on the move! CI

The lighting, colors, the gravel walk and the children's area are well designed and quite attractive. The concrete benches could be much improved by adding a well-designed backrest. I think it would solve a functional problem and possibly improve the aesthetics.

The benches were probably designed to prevent street people sleeping on them.

Coming from Michigan I am amazed by the rough quality of the grass sod that was laid in the park. You can break an ankle walking across the field. Perhaps it was not rolled properly or was a rough quality to begin with?

The pervasive arguments that those eye-sores, useless, concrete "park benches" were "planned" and put there on a PARK, so that the homeless people would not set shop there, or because the maintenance cost is lower, or whatever other "reasons" are beyond Absurd.

There are 3 main parks now in the Grove, and many more, with no Concrete, Ugly, Disgusting "park benches" And we have all survived so far with the homeless people, haven't we?

I reiterate that it was horrible City Hall planning, horrific sense of taste for any park, and maybe just trying to save a Dime or accommodate a specific contractor.. There's no other possible, reasonable explanation.

Google "Park Bench" ; Images. And try to find anything uglier, concrete, Robotic, no back support. Try to sit down and read a book sitting on those things.. Even the Kids and dogs run away from them. Scared to death.

Admit the obvious Mistake, Ken Russell, not your mistake, and simply replace the despicable concrete things. I suspect Grove Tax payers pay enough, and deserve REAL PARK BENCHES. And by that, we mean old fashioned WOOD, with back support. Nothing too fancy or expensive,as in every other PARK in the USA or Europe. CI

Bring a chair if you want to read a book or sit on the ground, with your back to a palm, in the shade or use it to block the sun, whatever, or bring a cushioned chair with a back rest from China for $19,95, that hooks up with these park benches to achieve a comfortable position; do something, anything but bitch, bitch, bitch. Have a nice day!
