Bacardi Sailing Week is the theme of FAM Night
The exhibit will feature three different components: Italian artist and painter, Roberto Fiorentino, will feature his "OFFshore" collection in his pop-up "WeGallery" inside CocoWalk. Many of his works are sailing inspired pieces that explore different painting techniques. Bright, glistening characteristics dominate Roberto's work: a purely recreational act, unaffected by any sort of logical complexity. Roberto's past exhibitions, including those in New York, Florence, Sorrento, Milan, Naples, have all received critical acclaim and he has been featured in several publications.
For this years exhibit, Bacardi Miami Sailing Week has also partnered with Wooden Boat Magazine, a publication for wooden boat owners and builders and boat builder George Krewson to build an original 11 foot Shellback sailboat in one-week's time. A temporary boat-building shed will be set-up in CocoWalk that, coincidentally, was home, back in the 1950's, of a real boat building business. Sailing week is March 6 through 12, based at the Coral Reef Yacht Club.
There will also be a photography installation which will display beautiful images of the past sailing weeks.
The exhibit will run from Saturday, March 5 to Sunday, March 12 with an opening night reception at 6:00 pm inside CocoWalk on March 5.
In addition to these events, celebrated artist Daniel Pontet will conduct an artistic performance inside CocoWalk with accompanying musicians. The artist's technique is very unique as he interacts with his canvas to create art made with his feet. He calls it art experience and he uses the action painting movement as his reference for great work he creates.
Additional events will be held in the District as well, such as fashion and trunk shows, special offers from participating restaurants as well as more live art and music throughout the neighborhood.
FAM Night is a neighborhood celebration that showcases musicians and artists who display their work in participating businesses. It is sponsored by the Coconut Grove Business Improvement District to promote cultural tourism. It is a wonderful opportunity for residents and visitors to become acquainted with local businesses and the art community.

Does the Grove realize how tacky FAM night makes it?I'm starting to think somebody just completely gave up on the Grove :(
Anon, you have got to be kidding me! I look forward to hearing what you have or will come up with and putting your name on it instead of just taking jabs anonymously. The latter is just too easy. As for FAM night, I look forward to it and applying a Sailing Week theme to it is a great idea. Maybe I'm tacky too, but I don't care.
Jeez. Just when I think I've heard it all from the complainers, somebody comes along to top them all. FAM is a great night. Wish they'd do it twice a month.
Yea anon, give us your name! Because that would make your comment legitimate. Its not like you'd use a fake name.
I agree the marketing of FAM has unauthentic tinges by conjuring "Bohemia" when Coconut Grove is too original to try to define it with simplistic slogans to please the boss dejure. If Grove is really "Bohemia" then why can't any artists, musicians or artisans just show up, free for all, setup an easel or a stand or a stool and do what Bohemians do on the Gallery Night first Saturday of the month without having to go through any unbohemian process.
Actually artist can just show up to do their thing, granted by a federal ruling: WHITE V. CITY OF SPARKS, No. 05-15582 August 29, 2007.
Essentially, this is the short version: You original work of art must contain a theme that refers to the protection of our planet; environment, turtles, birds, frogs or the horrors of war, death penalties, abortion, get the idea? This is called freedom of expression and incorporates freedom of speech. Anyone can do this on public property, i.e., sidewalks or public places like parks. Can't take more than 37% of the sidewalk so folks can pass safely. If the police arrive to give you a citation or actually arrest U and take your "ART" you'll make a ton of money after your court date and any attorney should take the case as his legal fees are guaranteed under part of this law. GO FOR IT U artist. I did, the city placed a lien on my home for about $780,000.00, and lost in federal court. Jobie Steppe
