Changes along the waterfront
Some changes are taking place at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club regarding the future use of the Dinner Key Marina Seawall. Director of Public Facilities Daniel Rotenberg says that fees will be charged for use of the launch area during special events. The watersports rental area would move to the current Celebration boat site, allowing better access for the public to rent the various watercrafts. This is not sitting well with those who would like the Celebration and other boat businesses to stay put. Rumor has it that eventually large yachts will take over the site, owners from the new condos across the street have their eyes on it.
The Parks Department is working with the various sailing clubs along the waterfront to develop maps of use areas for each of the sailing events and regattas. They require different configurations for number of vessels, size, trailers, etc. The use of a security guard and fee schedule is also part of the process. The events might use the Meyers Park boat launch area for this year’s regattas. It was suggested that the dingy dock area could be reconfigured after completion of the new dingy dock near Pier 8 with a ramp to supplement the access for regatta events. It could also serve as a public kayak launch area.

There are also signs in front of the Chart House that say dingy tie-up is not allowed. Some people are claiming that this is not legal according to marine law. Anyone know if these signs are legal or not? The is no agency or authority's name on the signs.
Don't forget that thanks to Sarnoff and Art Noriega, soon everyone that visits Regatta Park or City Hall on days other than Commission meeting will be forced to pay to park in what has historically been the "free" parking lot next to City Hall.
If you don't think this is right, contact your new Commissioner and let him know what you think.

Ken Russell needs to be made aware of issues of importance to the residents. Informing him of your concerns BEFORE changes are implemented will be the key to helping Ken do a better job of representing his constituents.

I heard that Terra Group is building a Model for their Park Grove project in the new Dock Master building. This was another Sarnoff deal before leaving office. Hopefully, they are paying rent but don't understand why they would be allowed to use this public building for this use.
These changes shouldn't be surprising to anyone who uses this area! About 18 months ago everyone about the area noticed 6 months of dredging this area and the placement of large boulders along the shoreline - specifically to allow large vessels with 6', plus drafts under their water line to maneuver. It is not logical (probably not legal) to plant the seed in the public's mind; saddle/associate Ken Russel with some impractical notion that he can reverse a course of action, and the money spent, that some other commissioner(s) implemented years ago. Anyone who suggest such an argument, or course of action should have done so before the dredging took place and all that money was spent on behalf of the taxpayers, a day late and dollar short. There would be no need to make aware and educate Russell about our community and the concerns of Grovites, if for the past several years he had actually attended some meetings and shown an interest in the issues that affect us all.
Anon 9:06, perhaps Mr. Russell understands the "concerns of Grovites" are the same concerns of folks throughout the world; climate change, clean water, food, health care, crime, family, community, government, transportation, etc., etc., & etc... You've inferred that "Grovites" are separate and apart from all others and that Mr. Russell hasn't "actually attended some meetings and shown an interest in the issues that affect us all" and you did so as an anon!
