UM's Coach Morris to speak at Grove Rotary

The Rotary Club of Coconut Grove is holding their next luncheon on Thursday, September 17, everyone is welcome. Guest speaker is Coach Jim Morris, head coach for the University of Miami baseball team. They meet at the Sailing Club of Coconut Grove (2990 South Bayshore Drive) at 12:15 pm.  The cost for lunch is $20.

In his 22-season tenure at Miami, Coach Morris has brought his teams to the College World Series 12 times winning the national title in 1999 and 2001.  He set a NCAA record for guiding a program to the CWS in each of his first six years at UM.  Additionally, he won 16 of 22 NCAA Regional appearances at UM, including a record 13-straight. 
A three-time national coach of the year and 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year, Coach Morris has directed the Hurricanes to a 981-405-3 (.706) mark since arriving in 1994.  In 2015, Morris led the Hurricanes to their second straight ACC Coastal Division title, the 24th College World Series appearance in program history, and reached the 50-win mark for the 12th time in his 22 seasons.Morris entered 2015 as the fourth-winningest active coach in Division I baseball with 1,435 wins.
Coach Morris has also enjoyed success on the International scene. From 1989-90, Morris served as head coach of the USA Baseball team that won a Silver Medal in the 1989 Presidential Cup (Taiwan), Bronze Medal at the Goodwill Games and the 1990 International Baseball Association (IBA) World All-Star Game in Atlanta. At the Goodwill Games, his USA squad won two of three games against Cuba, marking the first time in history a senior-level team won a series with Cuba.
