Grove parks part of national Coast Clean Up Day

Satuday was Coastal Clean Up Day put on by the Ocean Conservancy. There were four locations to clean up in Coconut Grove - Peacock Park, Kennedy Park, Dinner Key Island and Myers Park. This is a national event. It's a small step in cleaning up the trash that overtakes the oceans.

At left, is Lucy Lopez, local business owner who coordinated the Kennedy Park Group. We're happy to say that the stream in the mangroves is flowing again. At right is Peter Upperco, Miami High teacher for the environmental studies and marine science. He has been participating in the coastal clean up for the past 30 years.

Happy clean up crew.
