Book release party for Arva's new book

The University Presses of Florida is publishing Arva Moore Parks' new 400 page book, "George Merrick, son of the south wind," about the founder of Coral Gables.

"There is a lot of Coconut Grove history in it because of Eunice Peacock Merrick and the Merrick’s early years in what was then called 'the Coconut Grove back country.' "

The book release party is Thursday, October 15 at the Coral Gables Museum, at 6:30 pm.

Arva is a long-time Miami historian. There was quite a full house at the release of her Coconut Grove book, with photos and the history of our area, in 2010 (look for me on page 126).

She is the former chief curator, interim director, and chair of the Coral Gables Museum. She is the author of numerous books on Florida history, including The Forgotten Frontier: Florida through the Lens of Ralph Middleton Munroe and Miami, the Magic City and our favorite, Coconut Grove. It was a full house in 2010 when the book premier party took place at The Bookstore in the Grove. Look for the book still a big seller at the bookstore (look for me on page 126).

The Coral Gables Museum is at 285 Aragon Avenue in the Gables. The event is free and open to the public.
