It was an eclectic night of art, music and Burlesque

Decades later the Grove still vibrates as an artists’ community - among the best, along with so many other gallery walks in the Miami-area. Saturday night there were at least three galleries crowded with folks seeing everything from photography to contemporary to classical art (reminiscent of Picasso and Matisse and Chagall and Dali). Above, on Main Highway, the University of Miami Frost School of Music students performed.

And, the hors d'oeuvres and wine were also classic. Of note, other arts were represented like jazz (by the young kids at the Academy of Arts and Minds - so great) and rock or folk on every corner and then the renown Coconut Grove Drum Circle, now in the front of the Barnacle.

New twists were fashion and pole dancing. The Sale Rack on Main Highway, featured the best pole dancers this side of Flashdance. And the restaurants were also amazingly Grove -- all together happily being a great art community.
And the art continues Sunday night at a free concert called, “Youth and Hope” that features winners of a concerto competition, playing at Ransom Everglades 7:30 pm.  This annual presentation of young local musicians features top winner Annabel Chyung, a Ransom Everglades senior, who performs the Sibelius violin concerto with the orchestra. James Leng, a 10th grader at New World School of the Arts, performs a Schumann piano concerto, and cellist Roey Dushi, as senior at the Dreyfoos School in West Palm Beach, plays Tchaikovsky. The program also includes the lively Danzon #2 by Marquez, and a new work by young composer Anthony Arcaini.

Ransom is located at 3575 Main Highway.

It was a really pleasant surprise to see all the activity Saturday night. Even the playhouse parking lot was full.
