Free bike valet offered at Gifford Lane Art Stroll

The Gifford Lane Art Stroll is Sunday, March 1. It's kind of tricky to find parking in the area, so it might be a good idea to bike over. Bike Coconut Grove will be operating a free bike valet service for you if you do bike over.

The organization offered free bike valet parking at last year’s Green Market in the Coconut Grove Playhouse parking lot, and it was a big attraction. This year Bike Coconut Grove intends to expand its bike valet parking service to other events throughout the Grove.

How does it work? Leave your bicycle with the bike valet, take a numbered ticket (the other half of the ticket is attached to your bike), and enjoy the Stroll knowing your bike is being watched in a secure setting.

The bike valet will be available between noon and 5 pm on Sunday, for the duration of the Stroll. Bike to the event and look for the Bike Coconut Grove banner and signs on the swale alongside the Kirk Munroe Tennis Center on Oak Ave.

Nice gesture for some tourists, I guess. Most self-respecting bikers don't use the much advertised " bike valet parking". Not that very few people won't use them, (maybe 5, count them), it's just that we know our way around. We've learned the hard way through the years where to lock a bike and how (always with an unbreakable jaw lock) and where/when not to leave a bike. It ain't rocket science.

What we could use is REAL free parking, of the CAR variety, you know, as many of our neighbors enjoy. Or a free Trolley, you know?

So enough with the City's lousy little ruses.

"Free bike parking" for Gifford bikes. Cost? 2 volunteers for 1 afternoon. Guess the City's "parking authorities" and the powers that be can afford such a generous expense, after they just collected $20 and $30 for car parking during the entire Arts festival.

The City or the MPA has nothing to do with the Gifford Lane Art Stroll. Welcome to do it yourself!
