One of the first green mayors passes away

David Kennedy,Jr.
David Kennedy, Mayor of Miami from 1970 to 1973, who Coconut Grove's Kennedy Park is named after, passed away on Thursday, he was 80. He was considered a green mayor, long before that was the thing. He created Kennedy Park, it was named after him after he left office and he had the vision of Bicentennial Park in downtown Miami.

He idolized architect Frederick Law Olmstead who co-designed Central Park in New York and other parks in large cities.

More about Kennedy in the Miami Herald.
