Join the annual Lionfish Bash
The Lionfish Bash fishing tournament is at Bimini Sands Resort and Marina the full weekend of August 15-17, 2014. The main purpose for the Lionfish Bash is to raise funds and awareness for the spinal cord injured community as well as Jackson Rehabilitation Hospital.
Thist is a family event hosted in Bimini, Bahamas and the aim is to clean up the reefs by getting rid of the invasive Indo-Pacific lionfish. This species has made a new home all over the Great Bahamas Bank and into South Florida. Over the past three years, the Lionfish Bash has removed more than 1,000 lionfish from the waters around Bimini, and has raised more than $70,000 for The Woody Foundation.
The Woody Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization formed in 2011 to raise funds for the recovery of people with spinal cord injuries. The namesake of The Foundation, James “Woody” Beckham, suffered his spinal cord injury making a rugby tackle in January 2011. His family and friends have bonded together to support Woody by making donations to local charities which help others with similar spinal cord injuries.
The sendoff party at Shake-A-Leg is $20 per person, the fee for boat registration is $200, which includes the awards dinner, t-shirts, prizes, raffle tickets, happy hour, goodie bags and more.
Prizes will be given for the largest amount of liionfish hauled in, the largest lionfish, the smallest lionfish and other categories.
