“RED Day” will lend a hand to local school

Keller Williams Coral Gables/Coconut Grove Real Estate associates may be taking the day off on Thursday, May 8, but it will hardly be a day of rest. Associates with the Coral Gables – Coconut Grove office with the help of JRG Lawn Care Services have chosen to “Give Where They Live” as part of RED Day, the company's annual day of service, dedicated to renewing, energizing, and donating to their local communities.

As part of the RED Day effort, FS Tucker Elementary (3900 S. Douglas Road), will be quite busy. From 9 am to 4 pm the school, garden will be rejeuvenated. The students that attend FS Tucker Elementary come from the neighborhood where 40% of the 3,000 residents live below poverty level and the median house hold income is less than 1/3 of the neighboring communities. As a result 95% of the student’s population qualify for free and reduced lunch. The project is being undetaken to raise the moral of the students.

"RED Day is built on the belief that people can and should come together to achieve extraordinary things to help others," said Team Leader Maria Elena Arias. “Last year, we created an outdoor lunch area and completely revamped the landscaping for Coconut Grove Elementary. We can’t tell you what an impact it made on each of us personally. We all know that filling all the gaps in our communities can't be accomplished by serving just once a year.  RED Day just happens to be the one-day expression of the constant state of the Keller Williams culture. We see a need, discover who can meet it and get it done.”

Since the first RED Day in 2009, Keller Williams associates have given almost a half million hours of community service through activities ranging from food and blood drives to cleaning up trash in public parks, revamping gardens at nursing homes and rebuilding homes and schools for community members in need. To this day, it is one of the largest events in the real estate industry.
