Barnacle holding Commodore's birthday party

Commodore Munroe
The Barnacle is holding a party for Commodore Ralph Munroe's 163rd birthday. Commodore Munroe's house (the barnacle) is the oldest house in Dade County, which is standing in it's original location. He was a yacht designer, his original boat house is still on the property, with all of his tools still inside, right at the water's edge on the Barnacle back lawn.

In 1874, the Commodore met William Brickell in New York where Brickell told him about Miami and Coconut Grove. In 1877, the Commodore visited for the first time. In 1879, he and his family moved to Coconut Grove. His wife Eva passed away in 1882 and her grave is in its original location, right in front of the Coconut Grove library on McFarlane Road.

But this party is about celebrating the Commodore's life. There will be a buffet, cake, live music and a silent auction.

The event is Sunday, March 30 from 6 to 9 pm.

Admission: With advance reservations made by March 26th: $40 for members of The Barnacle Society, $45 for non-members, and $10 for children 10 and under. $55 per person at the gate.

The Barnacle is located at 3485 Main Highway. Info: 305-442-6866
